چکیده

Currently, degenerative disk disease (DDD) and the subsequent chronic lower back pain that results from it represent a significant source of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The available treatment modalities such as pain therapy and surgical interventions aim to provide symptomatic relief; however, they do not address the underlying pathophysiology of DDD. The disease also has high societal health care costs (Chan et al., 2006; Cassinelli et al, 2001). Many modalities exist for symptomatic treatment of this condition, including bed rest, massage, stretching, strengthening exercises, physical therapy, epidural injections and other pain management therapies, and spinal surgery. Most conservative therapies are

Degenerative Disc Disease: A Review of Cell Technologies and Stem Cell Therapy

Background & Aim: Low back pain is broadly documented as one of the most widespread pathologies in the advanced domain. Although the reasons of low back pain are uncountable, it has been meaningfully related to intervertebral disc degeneration. Present therapies for Intervertebral Disc (IVD) degeneration such as physical therapy and spinal fusion reduce symptoms' severity, but do not treat the ...

Regeneration potential and mechanism of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell transplantation for treating intervertebral disc degeneration.

Intervertebral disc degeneration is a primary cause of low back pain and has a high societal cost. The pathological mechanism by which the intervertebral disc degenerates is largely unknown. Cell-based therapy especially using bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells as seeds for transplantation, although still in its infancy, is proving to be a promising, realistic approach to intervertebral disc re...

Mesenchymal stem cells for intervertebral disc repair and regeneration

Low back pain secondary to degenerative intervertebral disc disease contributes to significant pain and disability in the United States. The potential to reverse intervertebral disc degeneration has driven significant interest in the development of stem cell therapy for degenerative disc disease. Early animal models have demonstrated that stem cell therapy may facilitate the reversal of the dis...

Cell-Based Therapies Used to Treat Lumbar Degenerative Disc Disease: A Systematic Review of Animal Studies and Human Clinical Trials

Low back pain and degenerative disc disease are a significant cause of pain and disability worldwide. Advances in regenerative medicine and cell-based therapies, particularly the transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells and intervertebral disc chondrocytes, have led to the publication of numerous studies and clinical trials utilising these biological therapies to treat degenerative spinal cond...

Intervertebral disc cell-mediated mesenchymal stem cell differentiation.

Low back pain is one of the largest health problems in the Western world today, and intervertebral disc degeneration has been identified as a main cause. Currently, treatments are symptomatic, but cell-based tissue engineering methods are realistic alternatives for tissue regeneration. However, the major problem for these strategies is the generation of a suitable population of cells. Adult bon...

Cryopreserved Mesenchymal Stem Cells Stimulate Regeneration in an Intervertebral Disc

BACKGROUND Degenerative diseases are a medical, social, and economic problem worldwide. The most significant factors predisposing the development of degenerative changes in intervertebral discs are a low density and poor biosynthetic potential of the cells. Therefore, stem cell therapy in this case should show high clinical efficiency. METHODS The research aim was to evaluate the regenerative...
